The Sublime in History and Its Extension to the 1900’s The Sublime is an aesthetic category that embraces sensations that are not ascribable to the 18th century academic view of beauty as a balanced harmony. When defining the specificity of contemporary art, the Sublime is therefore a fundamental theoretical issue. The course intends to demonstrate that although the characteristics of certain issues change over the course of time, the issues remain the same and continue to reoccur.
